Outrigger Fiji Focussing On Local Experiences

August 18, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

You could be forgiven for thinking the presentation was professionally choreographed and the speakers had been coached and were members of a group of celebrity speakers.  Attendance at this function was the largest ever according to the MC.

We were at the highest point of the sprawling Outrigger Fiji Beach Resorts Kalokalo Bar high above the resort with magic views of the sun setting over the ocean. All of this accompanied by free flowing cocktails, wine, bubbly and beer. The MC was the resorts General Manager, Peter Hopgood and the other speakers were staff from every department of the resort. It was a very comprehensive briefing about the many activities and opportunities the property has to offer. Peter and his team also spoke about guests’ anniversaries and welcomed back visitors who had stayed multiple times. This Thursday evening function was the biggest gathering in this GM’s nearly eight years at the helm and is one of the important components of the Outriggers Signature Experience which has been initiated at Outrigger Resorts globally. The Outrigger Resorts Invites Travellers to “Escape Ordinary with new Signature Experiences Series”. The programme is to offer guests some add-ons and an insight into the culture, history and experiences of the locals.

Cocktail service with a smile

Highlights of the Outriggers Signature Experience include a rendition of the traditional welcome song “Bula Malae” plus Sulu’s and the traditional home-made clay beads on arrival. Guests are welcome to join in the activities including A Fire-Walking Ceremony, Fiji Meke Performance (traditional Fijian songs and dancing) Polynesian Performance, Kava Ceremony, Torch Lighting Ceremony and the Village Choir.  These experiences bring dance, music, singing and great characters from the surrounding villages into the resort.

The Vakavanua Lounge is the hub of entertainment for the resident band and performers. The Fijian music and harmony is an excellent enticement for the audience to take to the dance floor.

Eating experiences include the Ivi Restaurant – Fine Dining, Baravi Restaurant (Asian), Sundowner Restaurant and Bar (Char-grill and pizza), Kalokalo Bar (High tea and tapas)

Outrigger adults only pool

Ivi Restaurant has been voted the number one restaurant in the South Pacific on many occasions. It is a traditional ‘fine dine’ experience. Of course one of the highlights is the Managers reception. “The best GM’s reception anywhere in the world” claims Peter Hopgood.

Bringing a tear to your eye and a flash of great memories when the staff sing “Isa Lei” the traditional Fijian farewell song. These signature experiences vary at all the Outrigger resorts.

Situated in 16 hectares of manicured gardens on the beautiful coral coast near Sigatoka about half an hour drive from Nadi airport, the property has 47 authentic Fijian bures or you can stay in one of the 207 traditional hotel rooms and suites which all have views of the lagoon.

This resort is elegant, luxurious and has every amenity a discerning guest could wish for in a five-star resort including areas which welcome families and children as well as five specific adult only zones.
