egtmedia59The Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach has received an award from TravelAge West, a travel industry trade publication, for the $18 million renovation to the hotel in 2012.

The hotel is the recipient of the publication’s Western Agents’ Votes of Excellence Award for “Best Major Renovation in Hawaii 2012.” The recognition was based on travel agent balloting, and was presented during the publication’s annual gala celebration earlier this month at the Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles Beverly Hills.

“This is a fabulous recognition for the entire Outrigger Waikiki team, especially as it comes from our travel industry partners who know the Hawaii product best,” Chuck Shishido, vice president of operations for Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, said in a statement.

The $18.1 million hotel renovation was meant to be a two-year project, but was completed in nine months. It included upgrades to all 525 guest rooms, the hotel’s driveway and entry on Kalakaua Avenue, its beachfront swimming pool and a new guest elevator system.

“Without a question, this was the smoothest renovation I’ve experienced,” said General Manager Robert McConnell. “Thanks to social media, we were able to inform our loyal guests and travel agent partners around the world on our progress with photos on Facebook and Twitter. The end result offers our guests a very unique and relaxing experience at our world famous location on Waikiki beach.”
