Over 50% Slashed from Mobile Phone Charges for Trips to USA this Summer

A surge in travel to the United States by Australians has prompted Australian travel sim card provider, Anaconda Mobile, to offer discounts of up to 52 per cent on its call, text and data roaming rates this summer.

Travel retailers receive 10 per cent commission on all funds credited by travellers to the Anaconda Mobile travel sim, which they can sell to customers as an extension of their service.

Using a smartphoneAccording to the United States Department of Commerce, Australians took 1.1 million trips to the US last year –  8 per cent more than the previous year – and the number of trips is expected to rise to 1.2 million this year. California, New York, Hawaii and Las Vegas are the most popular USA destinations for Australians.

To help holidaymakers and business travellers avoid mobile phone ‘bill shock’ from hefty global roaming charges, Anaconda Mobile is offering special low call, SMS and data charges in the US from now until February 28, 2014.

The summer rates on Anaconda Mobile’s pre-paid travel sim, which are on par with North American domestic mobile sim charges, include:

* Direct calls from USA to Australia – were 52 cents per min, now 25 cents – 52% saving
* SMS from USA to Australia – was 40 cents, now 20 cents – a 50% discount
* Data usage rates – were 50 cents per MB, now 40 cents – a 20% reduction

Discounts of up to 50 per cent are also available for call, text and data charges from Canada – a popular ski destination for Australians during our summer.

Anaconda Mobile’s pay-as-you-go and easy-to-use travel sim was launched this year, offering roaming rates a fraction of those from major telcos and up to 20 per cent cheaper than competitor sim cards.

Anaconda Mobile Director Bruce Hansen said the card was purpose-designed for the travel industry to onsell to customers as an extension of their service, with agents receiving 10 per cent commission on all money credited to the sim card by customers, White label opportunities are also available, Mr Hansen said, so travel companies could offer clients the sim card as their own product.

“America is growing in popularity as a destination for Australians so our low-cost, pre-paid Anaconda Mobile sim card offers travellers there the chance to dramatically cut mobile phone charges” Mr Hansen said. “Travel agents who offer our sim cards to their customers can also benefit from the commission we offer on card usage so it’s a win-win scenario for travellers and agents,” he said.
