Queenstown tourism pioneers Shotover Jet hosted over a thousand people at its annual local’s day on Saturday (November 16), raising over $13,000 for a local community group in the process.

“Absolutely perfect” weather and river conditions contributed to the massive turnout on the day, with increased adult numbers ensuring a rise in funds raised.

Each year Shotover Jet puts on a locals’ day to say “thanks” to its local community, running jet boat trips at special prices.  100% of monies raised from the local jet boat rides will this year be going to the Queenstown Lakes Family Centre.

The final amount raised will be revealed at the Shotover Jet Christmas Cracker family and community show on Saturday December 14, being held for the first time outdoors in the Queenstown Recreation Ground.

Now in its seventh year, the show will feature a cast of over 150 entertainers from all around the district and conclude with a spectacular fireworks display.

Shotover Jet General Manager Clark Scott said the locals’ day had been “outstanding’, with a fantastic atmosphere on the beach as trips ran all day.

“It’s always fantastic to be able to take locals out for a spin in the Big Reds and our drivers and support crews thoroughly enjoy the day too,” he said.

“For one local family it really was a day to remember as Jan and John Harris from Arrowtown were able to go out for a thrill ride with their sons Scott and Nick, both of whom work for us in customer services.

“Shotover Jet is thrilled to be able to support our local community each year through our locals’ day and the Christmas show, so now we’re really looking forward to the new-look Christmas Cracker!” he said.

The multi-tourism-award-winning attraction is 100% owned and operated by Ngāi Tahu Tourism, one of New Zealand’s premier tourism operators.
