Pack your bags: Queensland’s ready to holiday

Queenslanders are encouraged to pack their bags and get ready to holiday with tourism operators looking forward to welcoming visitors this Easter and Anzac Day long weekends.
Launching an Easter tourism campaign, Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey said Queensland’s tourism destinations were primed to give people a fantastic holiday experience.

“We want to let people know that April is the perfect time to enjoy a holiday in our State,” Ms Stuckey said.

“All of our major tourist areas have come through Cyclone Ita well and are open for business.

“The ‘Pack your Bags, Queensland’s ready to holiday’ campaign will include digital, radio and print advertising as well as social media activity from tomorrow up until Easter weekend.

“As one of the four pillars of the Queensland economy, this Government has moved quickly to get our tourism industry back on track, to restore confidence and boost visitation.

“We are working hard to maximise visitor numbers to the State and achieve our goal of doubling annual overnight visitor expenditure from $15 billion in 2010 to $30 billion by 2020.”

Ms Stuckey said the back-to-back long weekends of Easter (18 – 21 April) and Anzac Day (25 -27 April) provide an excellent reason to take an extended break.

“The message is simple, Queensland’s destinations are open and waiting to welcome you,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Social media is an important marketing tool and I’m encouraging all Queenslanders to get the behind the campaign and showcase the fantastic visitor experiences using the hashtag  #thisisqueensland.”

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington said Tourism and Events Queensland was working with industry, including key partners like Wotif, to get the message out to holidaymakers.

“The Easter holidays are an important time of year for our industry and there is no better time to experience what Queensland destinations have on offer,” she said.

Travel website Wotif.com Product Director Donna Rodios said as a Queensland born and bred company, we’re proud to be partnering with TEQ to promote Queensland as the ideal destination for a break this Easter.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council Chief Executive Daniel Gschwind said businesses in all regions of the state are keen to trade.

“Queensland’s business community knows that successful trading in the upcoming holidays will be critical for recovery among cyclone affected communities,” Mr Gschwind said.

“Visitors can remain confident that travel plans for the coming weeks can proceed without concern.

“Tourism in Queensland is a $23 billion industry and we urge visitors to continue to support regional businesses.”

Tourism and Events Queensland’s campaign activity will run in Brisbane and throughout regional Queensland targeting the important intrastate market.
