Singapore-based vacation rental website, which enables home owners to rent out their homes to short-stay guests has donated US$5,000 to aid the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

According to U.N estimates, about 2.5 million people are in need of aid with almost 600,000 people homeless in Tacloban City who are also in need of temporary housing either in staging areas like Cebu City. PandaBed has made their donation in the form of distributing “Relief Credits”. The Credits can be used to make bookings in any of PandaBed’s properties in Philippines. The only thing that PandaBed is requiring for usage of its Relief Credits are a scanned copy of the IDs of staying guests that shows they were living in the disaster zone, and a short testimonial on how they were affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

PandaBed’s CEO, James Chua said “We want to help partially or fully subsidize temporary housing for victims, their families and aid workers in any way we can.” PandaBed also encourages more Filipinos homeowners who have spare rooms to open up their homes to victims of the Typhoon and this can be easily done through the website. PandaBed believes that through connecting owners of homes to those who need temporarily shelter, it will be able to solve the short term housing needs of the victims. James Chua also said “…I also believe that when a stranger opens up his home to you in your greatest time of need it restores in some little way our faith in humanity..” Any victim or aid agency who would like to get in touch with Pandabed for Relief Credits, please email your request to by 15 December 2013.
