The Sunny Bay Concert, the first ever jazz concert hosted by Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort, was held from June 22-23, 2018. Guests could listen to jazz music while drinking wine and enjoying the beauty of the twilight of Sunny Bay.

Jazz can sound languid and lazy, but everywhere it reveals elegance and delicateness. It was perfectly described in a line from the movie La La Land: “It is conflict. It is compromise. And it is brand new every time.” Compared to classical music, jazz is a mix of conflict and compromise, and that unique and fleeting combination is always amazing.

The beauty of Sunny Bay is as leisurely as jazz. With mountains nearby, the beach provides ample opportunity for breathtaking ocean views. The Sunny Bay lawn on the beach is surrounded by coconut plants with the blue water and the blue sky. In the gorgeous sunset glow, guests enjoyed glasses of red wine against the sea breeze and felt the ebb and flow of the jazz.

The Sunny Bay concert was led by jazz singer Jasmine Chen, alongside Spanish jazz trumpeter Antonio Ximenez Lopez, bassist Danny Zanker, keyboard player Roksana Smirrnova and drummer Jaemin Lee, performing many classic pieces for each guest invited to the concert.

Jasmine Chen is a jazz musician and songwriter based in Shanghai. Born into a family of professional folk dancers and actors, she was groomed to be a concert pianist but fell in love with jazz while studying at the prestigious Leeds College of Music in England. She has since become one of China’sleading figures in the jazz scene, combining Western songs with original Chinese lyrics. Her unique perspective introduces one world to the other, bridging a gap between traditional Chinese songs and the West’s jazz legacy, and between forgotten folk songs and contemporary jazz singing. This rare talent for moving between two worlds and picking the best of what they have to offer has gained her a strong following from both Chinese and Western audiences.

The Sunny Bay Concert aims to blend the art of architecture and the art of music perfectly in Sunny Bay. The Sunny Bay concert will be held every quarter, and the next one will feature world music in the secret bay, to exemplify an era of original creation and fusion.
