The  recently  refurbished  PARKROYAL  Darling  Harbour, Sydney  continues  to  surprise  and  impress.

Last  Friday  night,  in  conjunction  with  the  opening  of  this  year’s  Good  Food  &  Wine  Show,  Sydney,  invited  VIP  clients  of  PARKROYAL  Darling  Harbour,  Sydney  were  selected  to  participate  in  a  unique  cooking  event.  Top  international  chefs – Australia’s  Curtis  Stone,  Britain’s  Ainsley  Harriott,  Spain’s  Miguel  Maestre  and  Brisbane–‐based  Alastair  McLeod  were  on  hand  to  assist  and  judge  the  contestants  in  the  BARKERS  Celebrity  Chef  Challenge.

The  Challenge  comes  after  the  launch  of  a  Celebrity  Chef  Inspired  Menu  last  month  in  partnership  with  the  Good  Food  &  Wine  Show,  Sydney.  The  new  menu  was  also  a  celebration  of  the  opening  of  the  hotel’s  newly  renovated  BARKERS  restaurant  and  to  showcase  some  of  Australia’s  finest  produce.  During  the  month  of  June,  celebrity  chefs  – Ainsley  Harriott,  Miguel  Maestre  and  Australia’s  Maggie  Beer,  shared  some  of  their  favourite  recipes  with  PARKROYAL  Darling  Harbour,  Sydney’s  Executive  Chef  Patrick  Doyle  and  his  team.

At  the  Celebrity  Chef  Challenge,  twelve  contestants  were  divided  into  groups  of  three  and  allocated  one  of  four  dishes  to  prepare,  cook  and  serve  in  30  minutes  under  the  watchful  eyes  of  the  judges.  The  contestants  cooked  Ainsley  Harriott’s  Crispy  Chicken  thigh,  savoury  puy  lentil  ragout  as  well  as  his  Tasmanian  salmon  and  spinach  fishcakes,  beetroot  and  horseradish  relish;  Miguel  Maestre’s  Queensland  king  prawns  and  mud  crab  paella  with  heirloom  tomato  sofrito  and  Maggie  Beer’s  Roast  Berkshire  pork  loin,  zucchini  agrodolce.  As  Maggie  Beer  was  unable  to  attend  the  event,  Curtis  Stone  stepped  in  and  led  her  team.  After  sampling  the  dishes  that  each  team  produced,  the  judges  announced  the  winning  team  to  be  Curtis  Stone’s  team.

Ann Formby from ClubsNSW says, PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney was very well set up for this event and, as always, the staff and Executive Chef Patrick Doyle, were so helpful! I really enjoyed the opportunity to participate and at the end of the cook–off our winning dinner tasted wonderful! The event was fabulous, fun and an opportunity to meet and learn useful tips from some world class chefs such as Curtis and Miguel!
