Police arrested an airline passenger who refused to turn off his mobile phone and was then filmed punching another passenger – before the man went further and allegedly thumped one of the police officers summoned to haul him off the plane.
The man’s actions were caught on camera. Footage of the incident, covered by a US TV news channel, can be viewed here:
The man standing in the video, identified as one Adam Kealing, 31, refused to turn off his mobile phone, US media reported. An altercation over that led the captain of the United Airlines flight to return the plane to the gate. The flight was about to take off from Chicago and fly to Dayton, Ohio.
Before the man left the plane, he took exception to another passenger and threw a punch while the victim was seated with seatbelt fastened.
Chicago police arrested Kealing, and that’s when he is said to have struck one of the policemen arresting him. He was charged with battery and resisting arrest.
Some other passengers say Kealing appeared to be drunk.
Whether that is true or not, the airline, and the Chicago Police Department, are unimpressed with Kealing’s behaviour. Chances are that the court won’t like it much either.
