egtmedia59“All of the sudden we heard this loud pop, pop, pop, pop, pop really loud and a ripping sound.”

That was how a passenger described a horrifying incident in which a plane’s walls appeared to be coming apart at the seams shortly after takeoff.

A passenger took a photo of the incident, in which most passengers feared the worst, ABC7 News in California reported. Worrying walls on AA plane

The American Airlines flight bound for Dallas with 184 passengers aboard made an emergency landing at San Francisco International Airport.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

Passenger James Wilson described how panicked passengers shouted at the cabin crew: “Come, look, the walls are caving in!”

Even more disturbing, Wilson said flight attendants then started asking passengers if they could see cracks in the plane, telling them to look into the split wall to see whether they could spot daylight.

The captain declared an emergency after 45 minutes and told passengers he was returning to San Francisco.

American Airlines says the flight never lost cabin pressure, which means the outer walls couldn’t have ruptured. Some passengers were rebooked on other flights but many felt, understandably, that they had experienced enough excitement for one day.
