Pearl Harbor 75th Anniversary Ceremony to Be Live Streamed

December 6, 2016 Destination Hawaii No Comments Email Email

This Wednesday 7th of December 2016, 7.45am Hawai‘i Standard time (Thursday December 8 for Australia at 4.45am Eastern Daylight Saving Time) people around the world will have the opportunity to watch the 75th National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Commemoration of the historic bombing of the US fleet in Pearl Harbor live online.

The December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, other military bases, and civilian areas on Hawai‘i’s Island of O’ahu led directly to America’s entry into WWII.

Kerri Anderson, Country Manager for Hawai‘i Tourism in Australia said that this was by far the most significant anniversary commemoration to date with special events running between the 1st and 11th of December.

“Pearl Harbor survivors are now well into their 90s and there are only five remaining USS Arizona survivors so this may be the last time Pearl Harbor survivors are able to return to O‘ahu,” she said.

“The 75th Commemoration is an opportunity to honour them and ensure their legacy continues long after the last survivor has gone.”

Highlights of the commemorations will include a reception to honour Japanese American Veterans; the premiere of Remember Pearl Harbor documentary; “December 7th Remembered” gala tribute; Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band free live performance; Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade; five nights of Movies on Waikīkī Beach, and four live benefit concert performances featuring Country Music Awards Entertainer of the Year, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood are also planned.
