Perfect Guys Getaway

Everyone talks about the girls’ getaway, but what about the guys?

As they enter adulthood, men approach trip planning much differently than they did in their adolescence. For most, trips with little sleep and less-than-comfortable accommodations are replaced by those that include great food, nice hotels, bonding activities and opportunities to relax.

Perfect options for laid-back, all-male getaways are hard to come by, though one has emerged on Florida’s West Coast in Bradenton, Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key. From flyboarding with your friends, to go-karting with the guys, the Bradenton Area is the perfect location for an easy-going group of guys looking to getaway. Highlights include:

  • Andersen Race Park: Set on 18 acres, the facility includes a one-mile professional go-kart track with 13 turns, 22 garages on pit lane, a full service karting store and an 8,000 square-foot shop where professional open-wheel racecars are prepared. Andersen Race Park is an early training stop for many professional racecar drivers, perfect for those seeking a true adrenaline rush.
  • LECOM Park: At LECOM Park (formerly McKechnie Field), which recently was named the best Spring training Park in Florida, baseball fans can catch a Marauder’s game (the Pittsburgh Pirate’s Class A-Advanced affiliate team), arrange to take batting practice, or just hang out at the unique 360-degree park and boardwalk spanning the outfield where they will find The Kona Bar with live entertainment – even when there is not a game!
  • Flyboarding & Endless Water Sports: In the Bradenton Area visitors can take a break from the land by renting a kayak, canoe or powerboat, chartering a fishing boat, flyboarding (boarding up to 20 feet in the air using a jet-ski for power), parasailing, windsurfing, or just exploring the clear-blue water where they are likely to spot wildlife, such as manatees, dolphins, sea turtles and fish.
  • IMG Academy: Groups can take in a lesson at world-renown IMG Academy which features programs throughout the year in tennis, golf, basketball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse, football, and athletic / personal development with some of the industry’s top coaches and trainers.
  • Treetop Obstacle Course: TreeUmph! Adventure Course, a high-flying ropes course through the treetops, is Southwest Florida’s only elevated adventure course. Here groups can swing through the trees, while tackling zip-lines and obstacles such as swinging logs, climb-through barrels, bungee swings and more – the perfect team building activity for a group of guys.
  • Golf Courses: Groups can take in a relaxing afternoon with a round of golf at one of the areas award winning courses, including Legacy Golf Club and Concession Golf Club.
  • Craft Breweries: The Bradenton Area is home to Motorworks Brewery, which was just named “Best Large Brewery in Florida” at the Best Florida Beer competition. It houses a full-production Brewery and Taproom and features Florida’s largest beer garden that spans a massive deck built around a 150+ year old oak tree, with a 3-hole putting green, two bocce ball courts, more than 15 corn-hole sets, a music stage and a 250” projection screen. Motorworks is one of a few breweries in the state of Florida to have its own grain silo and offers 30 craft beers on tap, including a few more award winners. Tours are available!  Located just down the road, is Darwin Brewing Company. Founded with the goals of crafting distinctive artisan brews and sharing the flavors and culture of South America’s Andean  Region, Darwin Brewing Company (an expansion of the original Darwin’s on 4th, one of USA TODAY‘s best brewpubs) features a newly constructed 15-barrel production facility, tasting room and beer garden. It offers seasonal and year-round brews and the best pub grub favorites, courtesy of top food trucks!
  • Fishing: Enjoy fishing from the beach, from a kayak or even a deep-sea charter boat! Take the grand slam challenge of catching redfish, snook and tarpon all in the same day, and after, bring your catch to one of several “hook and cook” restaurants in the area. Places like Pier 22, Cortez Fishing Village and Mar Vista Dockside will prepare your fresh catch however you like it

In addition, the Bradenton Area is home to sugar white beaches and the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Mexico. After a day of play, visitors can throw their towels down, play some volleyball, or just kick-back and enjoy a sunset – the perfect backdrop for guy’s group photo!
