TravelManament logo 108x54A select group of TravelManagers’ personal travel managers recently experienced an exclusive ski famil to New Zealand’s premiere ski destination, Queenstown.

Flying Virgin Australia and hosted by Sarah Miller, Sales Executive Victoria & Tasmania for Ski Express (Anzcro), the eight personal travel managers being New South Wales based Kim Mason representative for Cronulla, Michelle Schulze representative for Grays Point, Alexa Petherick representative for Lennox Head, Julie Painter representative for Mount Colah, Jane Fowler representative for Elrington; Philippa Williams representative for Medinie in South Australia; Karin Evert representative for Strathmore in Victoria and Michelle Kingston representative for Pacific Pines in Queensland, discovered the region has much more to offer than just skiing.

“Our famil highlighted just how varied the experiences are in Queenstown. One day we were skiing the Remarkables, the next day flying over the trees on a zipline adventure then enjoying a relaxing cruise aboard Queenstown’s 103 year old TSS Earnslaw.  It really showed me that Queenstown is a destination that offers something for everyone,” says Mason.

It was Mason’s second trip to Queenstown, with the growth in adventure activities that stood out as being the most notable change.

“There are now many more adventurous activities to do such as the Moa zipline adventure. You definitely need your sense of adventure on this experience as you travel on a series of four flying foxes high above the trees. The experience really gets your adrenalin going, but you are so pre-occupied with the incredible lake and valley views below, you don’t even realise how high or fast you are going. It’s a great way to get over your fear of heights!” laughs Mason.

With its close proximity and easy transition from Australia, Queenstown has long been a popular ski holiday option for Australians.

“I really feel the Remarkables Ski resort has grown up, offering much improved lift access, dining areas as well as road access. Queenstown has definitely become a place I would highly recommend for skiers but also for families who are looking for other activities to do on their skiing holiday. With everything in easy walking distance, you don’t need a car so it really is a great and cost effective holiday option for families,” says Mason.

Mason from her own personal experience, has some great planning tips for a ski holiday to Queenstown.

“If you plan to rent your ski’s and ski gear you can only hire boots, helmets and ski clothes – you need to bring your own goggles and gloves.  For any outdoor activity be prepared with a really great pair of gloves, scarf and beanie and I recommend you wear your ski goggles on the Shotover Jet!”

The personal travel managers found it hard to pick a favourite dining experience; there were so many highlights.

“One of the best dining experiences was at Ivy and Lola’s, located on the waterfront. It’s in such a great location and the cuisine is first class, I highly recommend their Gluhwein and Seafood Chowder, it was so delicious,” says Mason.

For Williams it was the spectacular views and delectable food from the restaurant at the top of the gondola that proved most memorable.

“The view at sunset going into evening was truly magical. The food was also incredible; I enjoyed some of best sushi, mussels and game during the entire trip here. The buffet restaurant books out weeks in advance so make sure clients pre-book to avoid disappointment.”

Experiencing Queenstown just like a client would was important for Williams.

“Being able to share my extensive personal travel experience and product knowledge with my clients is an absolute priority for me. Meeting suppliers face-to-face helps to remember the locations and what is on offer. I feel so much more confident in selling Queenstown now and recommending activities and the best place to get a burger and enjoy a good coffee with my first-hand experience. It’s these kind of personal touches I can talk with clients about, which makes their holiday experience the best it can be.”
