From today onwards, the revolutionary double-decker aircraft will transport up to 982 passengers in-bound and outbound daily between Perth and Emirates’ hub, Dubai.
“After much anticipation Emirates is pleased to now be able to offer Perth residents the opportunity to travel on an A380 service non-stop to Dubai, and potentially onward with another A380 connection to more than 33 other destinations on our global network,” said Rob Gurney, Emirates Divisional Vice President, Commercial Operations, Australia.
“The A380 is a state-of-the-art aircraft offering our flagship product in all three classes, and we look forward to providing this outstanding experience to our Perth passengers as well as to visitors flying into this vibrant city,” said Gurney.
Brad Geatches, Chief Executive Officer, Perth Airport said: “Emirates first commenced services to Perth 13 years ago, in 2002, and Perth Airport is very proud to welcome their first A380 today, connecting more passengers to destinations around the world and offering Western Australians the opportunity to experience an outstanding aircraft.”
The crew on the inaugural Emirates A380 flight into Perth from Dubai includes West Australian born Captain, Steve Darnell – an Emirates’ pilot of over 19 years.
“Hailing from Perth, it’s an honour to be able to pilot the inaugural Emirates A380 flight into my home city. It’s a world-class aircraft to fly, and its spacious and quiet cabins also make it also very comfortable to fly in. The many features onboard Emirates’ A380s will ensure passengers have the perfect journey when travelling to or from Dubai,” said Darnell.
Emirates’ A380 aircraft offers spacious seating and generous luggage allowances in Economy Class, while allowing passengers to stay connected in the air with Wi-Fi throughout the plane and 10MB of data for free or just USD $1 for 500MB.
Passengers will also be entertained with over 2,000 channels to choose from on Emirates’ award-winning inflight entertainment system, ice.
In line with the arrival of the A380, Emirates is also further investing into the West Australian market with an expanded lounge at Perth Airport. Set to open later this year, the lounge will offer increased capacity in order to cater for the passenger numbers that will be travelling on the A380.
Emirates was the first airline to place an order for the iconic A380, and is today the world’s largest operator of this efficient and spacious aircraft, with 60 in the fleet and 80 on order.
The Emirates A380 flying to Perth is set in a three-class configuration, with 401 seats in Economy Class on the lower deck, 76 fully flat-bed, mini-pods in Business Class and 14 First Class Private Suites on the upper deck.
Passengers in the First Class cabin can freshen up in one of two on-board Shower Spas before joining fellow premium class travellers in the On-Board Lounge where they can socialise, network and enjoy complimentary fine wines, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and delicacies prepared by five-star chefs.
