The Fremantle Markets, Fremantle’s historic landmark and one of Western Australia’s premier tourist destinations has achieved record numbers of visitors for the 2017 calendar year – with 2,640,350 people streaming through its historic gates over the past year.

Located in the heart of Fremantle’s popular restaurant and café strip, the heritage-listed Fremantle Markets boast more than 150 stalls under the one roof: showcasing everything from fashion, health and well-being, through to an eclectic and multicultural range of cuisine and international street food, alongside amazing indigenous art.

Established in 1897, the Fremantle Markets holds a special and important place in the history of Fremantle, and more broadly in Western Australia. It is a place to come together with friends and family, and immerse in its diverse offerings and fascinating history. And 2018 promises to be an even bigger year – with the addition of several fun new stall holders.

“For tourists, Fremantle Markets is an amazing experience- as not only do we have a vast array of shopping and dining options – but we proudly boast the original heritage structure, with the original cobblestones from the late 1800s – so it is a true walk down memory lane for the history buffs”, said CEO -Natasha Atkinson.

Alongside the diverse food and shopping experiences, Fremantle Markets prides itself on its dedication to live music, offering talented musicians the opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of people on any given day.  With more than 600 buskers set on the roster, the market’s live music provides the perfect atmosphere to chill out after a successful shopping expedition.

“Internationally- acclaimed and local Perth musician – John Butler– even got his start at Fremantle Markets through busking at the historic markets!”, said Ms Atkinson

Fremantle Markets also holds a raft of family friendly events and fun activities throughout the year, having previously held popular events such as a Market Ladies Night, Baby Animal Farm, night markets and even pop up Summer markets, to name but a few.

With a vast array of food stalls offering fresh produce, local delicacies and international street food the markets have been referred to as a “foodie’s haven” and there is even a bar situated in the heart of the main market centre- where guests can BYO beer or wine on a Friday evening– to complement their dining experience.

Tourists can indulge in a multitude of international cuisine and delicacies – ranging from traditional Japanese (reputed to be the best Ramen in all of Western Australia), Crepes, Donuts, New York Style Cookies, Perth’s famous Honeycake, Muffles, Roo Tea, and What the Bao, right through to your market standards of wholesome fresh fruit and vegetables from local producers.

The iconic WA institution is also dedicated to supporting indigenous culture and artwork, with many vendors selling original local artworks crafted by independent artisans and businesses.

Inside the Fremantle Markets, visitors will enjoy the distinctive atmosphere of over a hundred years of vibrant culture and heritage as they wander the laneways and discover clothing, jewellery, souvenirs and taste a variety of cuisines.
