For 10 days pushcarts will bustle down the streets and the smell of Peru’s best produce will take over as local farmers, leading chefs, culinary experts and thousands of foodies from around the world descend upon Peru for its famous food extravaganza.

Organised again by the Peruvian Gastronomy Society (APEGA), this year will mark the seventh Mistura food festival and will boast a new motto to the world; ‘Eat delicious food. Eat nutritious food. Eat Peruvian food’.

Mistura means mixture, a perfect name for this festival that mixes cultures, cuisines, and geography. With a focus on promoting a healthy diet for the well-being of generations to come this year’s Mistura will host a Gran Mercado (big market) right at the heart of the fair. Here, small farmers from a variety of regions in Peru will come together under one roof to showcase their produce to the thousands of foodies who visit.

Visitors can expect an array of cuisines including; Creole, barbecue, ceviche, Andean and Amazonian, Chifa and Nikkei as well as traditional Peruvian.

New additions to this year’s event will include a replica of an ancient terraced hillside, an initiative developed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI) as a tribute to Peru’s small farmers and the country’s incredible biodiversity. There will also be a new area for families and children that encourages fun ways of learning healthy eating practices.

Each year Mistura attracts internationally acclaimed chefs such as Ferran Adria of El Bulli, Dan Barber of Blue Hill in New York, Massimo Bottura of Italy’s La Osteria Francescana, Rene Redezipi of Copenhagen’s Noma, Quique Dacosta of Spain’s Quique Dacosta Restaurant. Many famous Peruvian chefs will be there, such as Gaston Acurio, Rafael Osterling, and Virgilio Martinez.

Peru, which is fast becoming a gastronomic epicentre and hub for top chefs worldwide, was hailed as Best Culinary Destination in South America at the World Travel Awards 2014 for the third consecutive year. A number of well-known Australian tour operators offer sensational itineraries that include Mistura food festival as well as Peru’s other fascinating destinations and adventures.
