PGA World Golf Championship Moves to Memphis in 2019

Memphis will host the PGA Tour’s World Golf Championship from 2019 for the first time since its inception in 1999.

The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will be renamed the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, and will move from Akron, Ohio, to the city of Memphis from next July.

Already known for hosting the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Memphis has hosted the Classic every year since 1958 – last year celebrating its 60th anniversary. But as Memphis’ hometown event embraces a new identity as a World Golf Championships event, and marking an overhaul in the Tour’s schedule, golf fans in Memphis will now see the PGA Championships move from August to May.

Along with the date change, local and fans alike can look forward to seeing the majority of the top 50 golfers in the world. Some of the sport’s biggest talents such as Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, and Justin Rose, will travel to Memphis on an annual basis from next year for the Championship. Australian names to look out for include Cameron Percy, Aaron Baddeley, Matt Jones, Danny Lee, Robert Allenby, and Greg Chalmers.

The 2019 event will take place 25-28 July, at TPC Southwind in Memphis.

For those accompanying avid golfing fans but who may not be as interested in the sport themselves, Memphis offers an incredibly diverse range of activities beyond the green. From the magic and music of Beale Street to eating your way through the best BBQ in the world, Memphis is a city of contrasts and endless activity. Plus Broadway sensation Hamilton will also be showing in Memphis throughout July for travellers looking to throw another highly coveted experience into their holiday mix.
