Memphis will host the PGA Tour’s World Golf Championship this July for the first time since its inception in 1999.

Taking place from the 24 – 28 July, the prestigious tournament which was previously named the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational has this year been renamed the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, and will move from Akron, Ohio, to the city of Memphis.

Already known for hosting the FedEx St. Jude Classic, Memphis has hosted the Classic every year since 1958 – last year celebrating its 60th anniversary. But as Memphis’ hometown event embraces a new identity as a World Golf Championships event, and marking an overhaul in the Tour’s schedule, golf fans will now see the PGA Championships take the great Southern city by storm and attract some of the golfing world’s most elite.

The WGC- FedEx St. Jude Invitational has already confirmed seven major players, including world number two, Dustin Johnson, who will return to Memphis this year with the hopes of taking out yet another victory, following his win at the 2018 FedEx St. Jude Classic. Some of the sport’s biggest talents are already locked in to compete including Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Bubba Watson, Matt Kucher, Sergio Garcia, and Tony Finau.

Next month’s WGC competition will be played on one of the most challenging courses on the PGA Tour schedule, TPC Southwind. Renowned architect, Ron Prichard with advice from American PGA icons, Hubert Green and Fuzzy Zoeller, crafted the pristine golf course and ensured that the old dairy farm it was built on and its classic country charm was not forgotten.

Those travelling to Memphis for the golfing world’s most prestigious competition will have the chance to explore what this iconic city is famous for. Recently awarded a coveted spot on Frommer’s Go To List for 2019, Memphis has so much to offer beyond the green. With everything from the historic Beale Street, authentic neighborhoods with live music venues and not to mention the best BBQ joints in the world – Memphis is a must for those avid golfing fans and travellers alike.
