Pilot’s shock at flying saucer hovering over Caloundra

April 23, 2014 Aviation, Headline News No Comments Email Email

egtmedia59A commercial pilot with more than 30 years’ experience is baffled by mysterious lights he saw hovering over Caloundra on Good Friday.

The Toowoomba Chronicle broke the story of how the pilot, a self-proclaimed sceptic when it comes to unidentified flying objects (UFOs), saw something very strange while admiring the night sky with friends.

Looking north over the Caloundra/Pelican Waters area on the Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane, he saw two coloured lights that at first resembled Chinese lanterns, rising high into the sky and heading south and then east. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Mysterious light over Caloundra

When the pilot saw a third similar glow appear and suddenly change direction, tracking northeast, he grabbed his camera and took a few shots before it disappeared.

After downloading the images, the pilot saw what appeared to be wingtips and the slight outline of an aircraft shape.

The UFO, as revealed by the paper online, appears to have a contour somewhat like an aircraft or bird and to be surrounded by a halo of intense light. It’s more like an angel than a flying saucer.

The pilot told the paper he had flown all over the world and had never seen anything like it.

Alongside the story, the Toowoomba Chronicle conducted some research, polling its readers online to find whether they believed in UFOs and to learn a little about their experiences.

The results appear to indicate that Toowoomba, a regional mountain city about 130 kilometres west of Brisbane, is a hotbed of extra-terrestrial activity. Over one-third of readers (37%) who responded to the poll reported that they had personally seen a UFO.

Even stranger, a further 8% of Toowoomba Chronicle readers claim to have had contact with aliens. Within that figure will no doubt be a few who claim to have been abducted by aliens, though that question wasn’t asked.
