Pinterest opens office in Australia

August 15, 2019 Social Media No Comments Email Email

Today we’re announcing the opening of our Australian office in Sydney to serve Pinners, creators and businesses in Australia and New Zealand. Pinners in the two countries save nearly 4 million ideas to Pinterest each day, giving businesses a chance to reach people when they’re considering what to do or buy next.

We’ve launched our Australian office with a small team led by newly appointed Country Manager Carin Lee-Skelton, who has managed sales organisations at Pinterest over the past four years in the UK. She will be focused on growing our work with brands in the two countries to help businesses succeed on Pinterest as well as ensure Pinners are able to discover the best and most relevant content to take action on.

“I’m excited to work closely with businesses of all sizes in Australia and New Zealand to help them reach their audiences on Pinterest,” said Carin. “People go on Pinterest to try new things like outfit ideas, recipes, beauty looks, dream trips and even home remodels. As people come to Pinterest full of intent, businesses have a unique opportunity to inspire them to bring their ideas to life.”

This is Pinterest’s third office in the Asia-Pacific region after opening our Singapore office in July 2019 to service Southeast Asia and India. Our Tokyo office servicing Japan opened in 2013.

We first launched advertising in Australia and New Zealand in 2017. More recently, we started building a team to work with local advertisers in industries such as retail, home, beauty, food and technology. We’re proud to be partnering with brands like Myer, Domain, and Woolworths.

Local small businesses such as real-u Australia and Koogal are also on Pinterest, using our platform to increase awareness and sales.

“Over the past year, we’ve been meeting growing advertiser demand by scaling our teams where we’ve launched ads such as in Australia and New Zealand, as well as expanding our ads business into new markets,” said Jon Kaplan, Global Head of Sales at Pinterest. “With Carin’s proven industry knowledge and years of experience driving results for brands on Pinterest, we’re looking forward to further developing the opportunities for businesses in Australia and New Zealand with a local team under her leadership.”

Pinterest’s mission is to bring everyone inspiration to create a life they love.  Unlike other platforms where the focus is on others, Pinterest is where people go to focus on themselves. Today more than 300 million people around the world come to Pinterest each month to plan their future—looking for ideas for what to eat for dinner, what products to buy, where to travel and how to decorate their homes.

APAC is one of our fastest-growing regions, with millions of people currently using the platform each month—a number that has increased by more than 50% over the past year (June 2018 to June 2019).

Our ads offerings are now available to businesses in 19 countries, 3x more than last year, but it’s still early days for our international expansion. We’re excited to finally have a home base in ANZ as demand for our service grows in the region.
