Pirata, home to Hong Kong’s very first Vermuteria, has launched a new cocktail menu featuring creative in-house creations, twists on vermouth classics and famous concoctions from the team’s favourite bars around the world. Located on Hennessy Road, the authentic Italian brings a little piece of London, Philadelphia, Copenhagen, San Francisco and Tokyo to Hong Kong.
Pirata’s Vermuteria is the perfect place for discerning cocktail drinkers to enjoy some of the world’s best cocktails created by talented mixologists from around the world without having to leave the city. Take a stop in San Francisco to awaken the taste buds with the Flor de Jalisco, made with Cimarron Blanco tequila, lemon juice, agave syrup and orange marmalade from the city’s Tommy’s bar, created by craftsman Julio Bermejo. Get transported to trendy Copenhagen with a sip of orange infused vodka, chestnut liqueur, white chocolate and chilled expresso in the Condorde, created by Adeline Shepherd from Ruby.
Pirata – Lychee & Coconut
The refined cocktail menu also features unique creations from Pirata’s in-house mixologist, Matthew Dallow. Try his take on a classicwith the Spiced Tiki, Plantation 3 stars rum, fresh guava juice, fresh lime juice, orgeat and secret spices, or a new creation Lychee & Coconut with Finlandia vodka, kwai feh, coconut milk and lychee juice. These inventive recipes are sure to become firm favourites with savvy Hong Kongers who are always looking for interesting and new flavours to sip on.
According to founder Manuel Palacio, although rarely used by mixologists in contemporary recipes, vermouth is incredibly versatile and a highly complementary cocktail ingredient, “vermouth deserves far more attention than it typically gets today; it’s light, elegant and provides a pleasant herbal aroma which accentuates the flavours in the cocktail when paired with the right ingredient.”
Pirata – Spiced Tiki
Pirata’s Vermuteria boasts the largest collection of vermouth in Asia with over 50 unique kinds of the liqueur, ranging from classic Torinos to boutique New World varieties. Pirata’s team has chosen to re-imagine the classic Negroni, showcasing Italy’s finest vermouth in new inventive creations including the Torino-Tokyo one way, using Mancino Vermouth Secco, Aperol, Choya Umeshu and Yuku sake and the Obi Wan Negroni, a mixture of Bombay Sapphire, Carpano Extra Dry, Carpenne Malvoti prosecco, Mosacato D’asti and Pallini peach liqueur.
For those who like their drink neat or on the rocks, Pirata’s selection of vermouth showcases the very best that the liqueur has to offer. With three distinct groups (Bianco, Amaro, and Quinquina) lining the shelves, “find the style that suits you,” says Manuel. This carefully organised variety treats first-timers to an educational experience, while providing something a little more challenging for those with a more complex palate.
