Por Cuisine, one of the leaders in quality eateries serving delicious traditional Khmer and French fare in Siem Reap, has recently celebrated its two-year milestone with a spectacular Apsara dance performance for 200 guests.
The mesmerising performance is presented by traditionally trained local artist dancers and is performed every evening at the Por Cuisine. The dance was inspired by the Apsara carvings and sculptures of Angkor and is presented in a lush tropical fresh air garden setting, providing the perfect location for a performance originally reserved for the pleasure of Khmer royalty.
Apsara, more than two centuries old and once confined to the King’s court, presents themes and stories inspired primarily by the Reamker (the Cambodian version of the Indian classic, the Ramayana) and by the Age of Angkor.
The Por Cuisine, a Manhattan-style restaurant, features a la carte or Khmer fusion meal costing between US$8 to $16 and features a capivating historical performance from 7.30pm until 8.30pm each evening.
A two-minute Rumork (Khmer Tuk Tuk) ride from the old market and Pub Street, Por Cuisine is popular with locals and international visitors.
For owner Por, whose name proudly features in the restaurant name, it is a dream that came true. In 1983 he had a vision of owning a fine dining restaurant. He started by opening a humble kiosk serving his traditional noodle creations to the people of Siem Reap. His simple dish became an essential part of the community diet, a taste that made his family well known and celebrated. Now 32-years later, the dream and the flavours have come to life. The family tradition continues but with a state of the art modern classic restaurant design and an exciting array of enticing flavours from both East and West.
The modern fully equipped and functional kitchen is overseen by some young leaders of the Cambodian culinary scene. It features all day dining. In addition to the selections on a set menu, it provides buffets and menues for cocktail parties, gala dinners and dinner themes. Por Cuisine seats 160 people and 300 for a stand up finger food reception.
Por Cuisine is now a sophisticated addition to the popular Siem Reap restaurant scene.
