Port Douglas is the ideal winter escape for Australia’s southern states

A leading accommodation identity in Port Douglas says far north Queensland is drawing in huge crowds from New South Wales and Victoria who are escaping the cold over winter.

Niramaya Villas and Spa Manager Zac Sarnecki says of the holidaymakers that visited the resort on their Open Day, the majority were from the likes of Sydney and Melbourne.

“As we conducted tours we saw more and more guests to the region from our southern states and they all had similar questions when it came to the resort,” Mr Sarnecki says.

“Many of them were asking about rates for three weeks up to two months because they travel to far north Queensland every year and stay for as much of winter as they can.

“This just goes to show that guests from our southern states aren’t just staying for a week or two during school holidays, they are coming for months at a time just to escape the freezing cold weather of their hometown.”

Mr Sarnecki says it’s no wonder when winter in Port Douglas offers the perfect conditions for a relaxing getaway.

“The majority of our guests for the end of July and throughout August are from Sydney and Melbourne who travel north to avoid their cold winter temperatures,” Mr Sarnecki says.

“With plenty of sunshine and warmth, low rainfall and a range of tours and activities to do, it’s clear to see why Port Douglas is becoming the destination of choice for June to August.

“Visitors to the region have the opportunity to visit the only place in the world where two World Heritage listed entities exist side by side – the Wet Tropics Rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef of Australia.

“Then to top it all off, our water temperatures average at 23 degrees Celsius during the winter months so guests can comfortably swim here in the ocean all year round.”

Niramaya Villas and Spa is a 5-Star luxury Balinese pavilion-style resort set in 15 hectares of landscaped gardens within walking distance of Port Douglas Village and Four Mile Beach.
