Tasty gourmet treats, local craft, and unique giftware are just some of the items you will find at Port Douglas’ newest attraction – the Wednesday Markets at the Marina.

Tourism Port Douglas and Daintree executive officer Doug Ryan said the markets, which are now in their third week, are proving to be a real hit with locals and visitors alike.

TPDD - New Markets Prove Hit“These markets are bringing hundreds of people down to the waterfront each week.

“They are browsing the stores, enjoying lunch and later in the day soaking up the atmosphere with live music, a drink and dinner.

“It is just great to see so many people out, enjoying the weather and Port Douglas’ hospitality,” he added.

Marina manager Peter Jones said he had no problem recruiting vendors for the new market, with the premier spots on what is considered Port Douglas’ prime waterfront, now being snapped up weeks in advance.

“The word is out…the first week we had just under 20 market stalls, this number has now more than doubled to 44.

“We are really happy with how it is all going and we hope people continue to come down here on Wednesday and take it all in.”

Mr Jones said the support from the local community to get the markets up and running had been fantastic and now all that was left to do was promote it.

The markets are open every Wednesday from 2pm to 7pm and are held along the marina.
