Port Stephens won seven accolades at the Hunter and Central Coast Tourism Awards last night (August 6, 2014).

Silver awards went to Destination Port Stephens for Destination Marketing and also to the Port Stephens Visitor Information Centre in the Visitor Information and Services category. And The Nelson Resort received a bronze prize for Deluxe Accommodation.

Port Stephens tourism operations made up seven of the 43 finalists in the awards, which embrace 13 local government areas in the greater Hunter region and Central Coast. Other Port Stephens finalists were the Big 4 Karuah Jetty Holiday Park and Dolphin Swim Australia.

The winners were announced at a black-tie ceremony at the Wests New Lambton Club in Newcastle, with more than 300 people attending, including a group of representatives from Destination Port Stephens and tourism businesses across the region.

The two gold winners in Port Stephens – Sand Dune Adventures and Halifax Holiday Park – will progress as finalists for the region at the NSW State Tourism Awards in November and if successful there, will go on to the Australian Tourism Awards early next year.

Destination Port Stephens General Manager, Janelle Gardner, who attended the Hunter and Central Coast Tourism Awards ceremony on August 6 said the growing appeal of Port Stephens as a leading regional destination in NSW was proudly showcased at the awards.

“I warmly congratulate the seven prize winners and our finalists from Port Stephens. The passion, hard work and vision that each of these operators displays help make Port Stephens the popular destination it is today, with  more than two million visitors creating a robust and expanding visitor economy now worth more than $400 million a year in Port Stephens,” Ms Gardner said. “Together, these dynamic, market-leading products shape the fantastic experiences we can offer to visitors in Port Stephens.”
