Port Stephens Invites Australia to Attend Major Tourism Conference in Their Backyard

Destination Port Stephens is inviting tourism players from around Australia to attend the nation’s premier regional tourism event, the Australian Regional Tourism Convention, in Port Stephens from October 20-23, 2014.

Port Stephens - Doing Business by the SeaThe four-day event, which Destination Port Stephens helped win for the area, will be staged at the Ramada Shoal Bay Resort in Port Stephens and draw more than 160 tourism industry representatives from around Australia, boosting the region’s economy by an estimated $240,000.

Welcome, business breakfast and farewell events will also be held at Vues Nelson Bay, Oaks Pacific Blue and Ocean View Restaurant in Fingal Bay with delegates spending one day in field trips to Newcastle, Singleton or the Central Coast to learn about tourism programs in those areas.

Destination Port Stephens Manager, Janelle Gardner, said the region was looking forward to hosting the conference in its backyard, adding that the convention would help delegates gain a competitive advantage in the growing visitor economy.

“The beauty of Port Stephens will provide a spectacular backdrop to the conference and we look forward to sharing our backyard with delegates from across the country,” Ms Gardner said.

Australian Regional Tourism Network Chairman, Steve Rosa, said the October convention would address important issues facing the regional tourism industry, with delegates able to better understand their competition and discover successful strategies and programs that have worked in other regions.

Ramada Shoal Bay“Delegates at the conference will gain research, information and expert advice on how to grow their businesses and they can also network with key players in the industry,” Mr Rosa said. “We invite regional tourism operators from across Australia to join us at this important event.”

The cost of the Australian Regional Tourism Convention from October 20-23 for members of the Australian Regional Tourism Network is a discounted $1210 including morning and afternoon teas, lunches, welcome and farewell receptions and Wednesday’s field trip.
