The countdown is on at Porters with exactly 14 days to go until the opening of the 2016 season, which is scheduled for 22 June 2016.

The best pre-season snowfalls in 10 years and an enthusiastic pre-opening team on the mountain are both auguring well for the season ahead.

“There are lots of eager skiers and riders from Canterbury and around New Zealand chomping at the bit for the Porters to open”, comments Sales and Marketing Manager, Anton Wilke.   “We’ve picked up really positive vibes at the Christchurch pre-season ski sale event and from our social media feedback” he adds.

When temperatures plummet snow-making staff have been regularly making snow, to complement Mother Nature’s snow falls.   At present the snow base is 80cm, above the Easy Rider chairlift.

Winter seasonal staff are starting to descend on the mountain for pre-season training.

Porters mid-week scheduled opening day means visitors can enjoy mid-week rates ($NZD 69 adult)

Porters is only 89km from Christchurch making it the closest commercial ski area Canterbury’s biggest city.
