At 10 a.m. 27 July President Ying-jeou Ma arrived at the departure hall of T1 to take part in the ‘Taoyuan Aerotropolis Interim Achievements Exhibition-Terminal 1 Renovation Project Completion Activity Series’.

President Ma expressed that the ‘Taoyuan Aerotropolis Flag Plan’, one of the ‘Love Taiwan 12 Major Construction Plans’, was proposed at his inauguration in 2008, and in November 2009, when attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the T1 renovation project, he vowed to execute the project with full force for the creation of a new national façade. Now the first stage of the Taoyuan Aerotropolis Plan has been achieved, and triggered by the opening policies, the 2012 annual growth rate of the international, cross-Strait, and domestic passenger volume exceeded 6 %. In TTIA alone the number of passenger volume last year reached 28 million, and is expected to arrive at 30 million this year, proving the breakthrough brought by the opening policies.

Passengers’ good experience of T1 completed sites opened gradually since June 2012 was reflected instantly in TTIA’s ACI/ASQ ranking: in 2012 Q3 it occupied the 11st place, in Q4 10th, and its 2012 annual ranking in the category of airports with passenger volume between 15 to 25 million stayed the 3rd. This year TTIA competed in the category of airports with passenger volume between 25 to 40 million, and in both Q1 and Q2 it still got the 3rd place. Before schedule TIAC has 20130727123512_JHY_9969reached the goal of returning to world top 10 in ACI/ASQ ranking within 3 years, a target set at the beginning of its transformation into a corporation.

T1 renovation project is the preliminary work of the ‘Taoyuan Aerotropolis Plan’, the flag of the 12 Love Taiwan Construction Plans, and its completion sets a milestone for the progress of the Aerotropolis development. In the future more works will be unfolded in TTIA, especially the construction of T3 area, as the designed capacity of T1 and T2 will quickly reached saturation with the expected passenger volume of 30 million in the near future. The General Consultancy (GC) of the T3 area has begun the overall design, and, together with TIAC and airport agents, will hold the experience, confidence, and diligence gained in T1 renovation to instill the latest terminal design concept in the T3 area, thus catering for passenger requirements. The T3 area will also be developed in coordination with the Aerotropolis Plan and the Free Economic Demonstration Zone to enhance the competitiveness of this country.
