President Xi Jinping was briefed on Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) developments and its expansion into a Three-runway System during a visit to the HKIA Tower this morning. President Xi was accompanied by Mrs Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Mr Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong, briefed President Xi on how HKIA leverages its unique advantages, including a prime geographical location, an extensive aviation network and close relationship with the Mainland to develop Hong Kong into an international and regional aviation hub, serving the country and the whole region, as well as contributing to the “Belt and Road” development strategy of the country.

Xinhua News Agency quoted President Xi as saying that the Central Government supports the building of the runway to help Hong Kong consolidate its status as a global aviation hub and improve its overall competitiveness. The president said that efforts must be made to ensure safe and efficient construction of the project, and maximise its benefits after completion.
