A behind-the-scenes tour of the famous Australian Antarctic Division ice-breaker, Aurora Australis, is among a host of exclusive experiences offered on a new four-day Chimu Adventures package to Hobart during the southern city’s first-ever Antarctic Festival from September 9-12, 2016.

Chimu is the only Australian company that uses Hobart as a base for Antarctic trips and is a major sponsor of the festival.

As part of the tour, hosted by Chimu founders Greg Carter and Chad Carey, guests will also be given a seat at the Festival’s key event – the $300-a-head Mawson’s Huts Foundation Dinner in the Hotel Grand Chancellor on Saturday September 10.

“Hobart has long-term historic links to Antarctic exploration and research and this trip will be a great inspiration for people yet to cruise the Southern Ocean as they will learn what an Antarctica cruise involves,” said Chimu co-founder, Greg Carter.

In addition to the Aurora Australis, guests will also be able to tour the the French polar vessel, L’Astrolabe, and see the technology that supports research cruises to the Antarctic.

Also included is an after-hours guided tour of the Mawson’s Huts replica museum – built to celebrate Dr Douglas Mawson’s epic 1911 polar expedition – given by Foundation Chairman David Jensen.

Further highlights include a polar history walk, a visit to the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies and an expedition cruise to Bruny Island showcasing the region’s wildlife.

The trip costs $1390 and includes all accommodation and tours. For further information, please visit: http://www.chimuadventures.com/tour/hobart-antarctic-festival
