Police are investigating the mysterious death of a 38-year-old Singapore Airlines flight attendant, found dead in her San Francisco hotel room after she set a date for her wedding.

Vanessa Yeap was feeling unwell when she arrived in San Francisco, a source told the Singapore Straits Times. She was rostered on the SIA return flight to Singapore, SQ1, but failed to arrive in the lobby of her hotel last Tuesday, the newspaper reported.

Colleagues investigated and when Yeap didn’t respond, they grew concerned and broke into her room, where they found her body. Attempts to resuscitate her failed.

Yeap, born in Penang, Malaysia, was a senior stewardess and had worked with the airline for 16 years. She was on Flight SQ2 from Singapore to San Francisco with a stopover in Hong Kong, a cabin crewmember who wished to remain anonymous told the paper.

SIA confirmed to the Straits Times that one of its female cabin crew had been found dead in her hotel room in San Francisco.

“Our immediate priority is to provide the necessary assistance to the family of the crew member. As the case is under the investigation of the local authorities, we are unable to share any further details.

“The member of crew operated to SFO (San Francisco) on Flight SQ2/28 January and was due to have operated out from SFO on SQ1/1 February.”

The case has received coverage by news outlets in San Francisco, by the New York Daily News and other media.

Last year, a 43-year-old Singapore Airlines flight steward died in Johannesburg, after reportedly hitting his head in a fall at a shopping mall.
