The Yilan Green Expo 2016, organized by the Yilan County Government and Lanyang Foundation Fund for Agricultural Development, is taking place from March 26th to May 15th at the Wulaokeng Scenic Area in Yilan County’s Su-ao Township. This year’s event aims to convey the attitude of “Everything Begins with the Heart”, with “Grain Heart” as the main theme. The Green Expo aspires to enlighten visitors by showing how individual’s can influence the entire food system, inviting visitors to actively face the issues concerned with food security.
The Yilan Green Expo enters its 17th year and is divided into different exhibition areas, including Greeting area, Millet Lifestyle, Chiao-To, Life Settlements, and Secluded Farms. With five sub-themes—Global Village, Nature Conservation, Sustainable Regeneration, Green Living, and Forest School—the expo features five pavilions: Rafting Party, Tel Gisborne, Recycle Age, Grain Heart Settlement, Secluded Agricultural Lands. Organizers reveal that the expo will offer up to 30 fun and interactive events for visitors, as well as video screening, live music, food, dye art, theatrical performances, and other rich and diverse cultural activities.
Deputy Director of Agriculture at the Yilan County Government, Li-Ho Kang, states that the Green Expo has long operated under the objective of promoting green concepts and green education ideals. In view of food security issues and the global food crisis caused by extreme weather in recent years, this year’s expo has added a Grain Heart Pavilion, Millet Pavilion, and Agricultural Physics Pavilion, among others. It also includes displays and interactive platforms for visitors to experience green concepts, and calls on public awareness for food security that begins with the individual, bidding farewell to harmful foods and bringing back a clear conscience.
