Qantas domestic drops paper boarding passes

October 12, 2018 Headline News No Comments Email Email

Qantas has dropped its boarding pass requirement for passengers on domestic flights who have checked in on their phone.

While other domestic airlines (including Qantas subsidiary Jetstar) waived the boarding pass requirement for passengers checking in electronically some time ago, Qantas persisted in providing a paper boarding pass.

The change came quietly, with news site Finder.com.au pointing it out recently and saying that the end of paper passes greatly speeded up the boarding process on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney.

A Qantas spokesman told the site’s Points Finder correspondent that passengers scanning their Qantas membership card to board a flight would still receive a printed slip so cabin crew knew where they are seated.

Passengers will also receive a printed slip if their seat allocation has changed since they checked in.

And there’s probably a printed backup if your phone battery fails at a crucial time.
