Australians’ love affair with travel has dominated this year’s Randstad Employer Brand Research, with Qantasbeing awarded Australia’s top employer in the Randstad Awards and aviation taking out the most attractive sector for the fourth year in a row.http://join.travelmanagers.com.au/

Qantas beat the VIC Government and the ABC – Australian Broadcasting Corporation to second and third spots respectively, with aviation being named the top sector thanks to financial stability, reputation and travel opportunities.

Australians rewarded Qantas for innovation with technology, financial health and strong reputation, particularly rating well with those in the 18-24 and 45-65 age brackets.

The airline edged out last year’s winner, Virgin Australia for the top spot, with the rival airline dipping from first to fourth.

In the category of most attractive industry, aviation was followed by the technology sector, mining and natural resources, state and federal government, and media.

Randstad’s research findings also identified what job seekers and employees look for from an employer. Australians named their top three considerations to be work-life balance, job security and a pleasant work atmosphere.

The awards, which were presented last night in Sydney, recognise the top employers and industries in Australia, as well as employee sentiment about attractive qualities in a job, according to a survey of more than 7,700 Australians.

“We’re thrilled to announce Qantas as the Most Attractive Employer and aviation as the Most Attractive Sector,” said Frank Ribuot, CEO of Randstad Australia & New Zealand.

“It’s no surprise that the aviation industry continues to be named the most attractive sector year after year.

“Aussies love to travel and working for an airline offers not only the opportunity to travel the world, but also financial compensation and real opportunities for career development.

“But it’s not just financial and career considerations that Australians are looking for. Work-life balance was identified as the most important expectation that Australians want.  Unfortunately, employers aren’t always offering enough balance, which creates a gap between what employees are seeking and what employers are actually offering. Companies that are able to recognise and bridge the gap will be able to attract and retain the best talent,” said Ribuot.

The VIC Government rocketed into the top 10 as the second most attractive employer, placing in the top 10 for the first time. It ranked well with people in the 25-44 and 18-24 age bracket, thanks to job security, financial health and opportunities for career progression.

The ABC – Australian Broadcasting Corporation rounded out the top three, scoring well for reputation, offering a stimulating and challenging workplace and innovation with latest technologies. It also scored well for those in the 25-44 age bracket, and a split of 50.7% for men and 47.8% for women.

The Randstad Employer Brand Research reveal public perception of Australia’s 150 largest employers (largest by workforce size) and is the largest piece of employer branding research in the world. This year, the Australian research captured the perceptions of 7,795 potential job seekers.
