Qatar imposes airport tax on passengers – from today

August 30, 2016 Headline News No Comments Email Email

egtmedia59Qatar has emulated airports in the UAE and imposed airport taxes on passengers. It will levy a new airport tax on passengers from today.

The airport was reported yesterday to have confirmed that every passenger leaving Qatar from Doha’s Hamad International Airport, including transit passengers, will be charged QAR 35 (about AUD 12.75) for using airport facilities.

The charge will apply to all tickets issued after today (30 August 2016) and for any travel starting on 1 December 2016 onwards.

Money gained would be used to “further increase the airport’s capacity and invest in new infrastructure,” the airport stated.

Falling revenues from natural gas and oil, with prices for those commodities currently staying low, are widely reported as being behind the move.
