Queensland tourism operators from across the state will travel to key cities in India as part of a six-day Queensland on Tour trade mission.

Eleven Queensland tourism businesses will meet with around 400 Indian tourism trade professionals in Delhi, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Mumbai from Sunday 17 to Friday 22 February.

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington said the 2019 Queensland on Tour India event was an important opportunity to help grow the state’s tourism industry.

“Queensland on Tour India is a great opportunity to showcase our state, its tourism offerings and the wonderful, passionate people who make up our tourism industry,” she said.

“This tour will bring together Queensland’s tourism operators with industry representatives in India, providing the opportunity for face-to-face meetings, training sessions and networking with key operators in India’s tourism trade, who are crucial to influencing the travel decisions of Indian customers.

“India is a key growth market for Queensland, with the most recent figures showing 75,000 Indian visitors spending $140.6 million in the year ending September 2018. We’re seeing more Indian visitors choosing Queensland, with a growth of 5.2 per cent, year on year, and a 12.2 per cent increase over the past three years.

“We’re committed to increasing visitation to the state and continuing to develop the tourism industry so initiatives like Queensland on Tour are important opportunities to build on our reputation as the perfect next holiday destination.”
