Camel driver, well sinker, horse trainer, all round bushman and the founder of a global footwear and clothing brand, Reginald Murray Williams is one of the great romantic figures of the Australian Outback.

The Tailor Plane low res

To celebrate this legendary Australian luxury in-bound operator The Tailor, in collaboration with R.M.Williams, has designed a four-day journey following the amazing trajectory of his life – from the harsh desert landscapes of South Australia to the workshop in Adelaide where it all began, and where the magic still happens today.

In RM’s Footsteps offers a remarkable insight into the world of R.M.Williams (1908-2003), exploring many of the Outback places which shaped his early career, meeting people who knew him and, of course, visiting the Adelaide workshop where his famous leather boots are made.

This specially-designed itinerary, which is being offered for the very first time in 2016, takes guests from the elegant boulevards of Adelaide to some of Australia’s most iconic Outback destinations, such as the Flinders Ranges, Lake Eyre, Birdsville, Innamincka and Cooper Creek.

Highlights include visiting the spot in the Gammon Ranges where R.M.Williams handcrafted his first pair of boots, a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound, morning tea at historic Angorichina Station and a private tour of the R.M.Williams workshop.

Guests travel in The Tailor’s brand new A$7.8m Swiss-made Pilatus PC-12 aircraft and stay at The Mayfair Hotel in Adelaide and The Prairie Hotel in Parachilna – both specially chosen by The Tailor. Each tour (groups are limited to more than eight people) is accompanied by a private guide.

In RM’s Footsteps is just that – a rare opportunity to explore the life and legend of R.M.Williams, a truly remarkable Australian,” says Drew Kluska, managing director of The Tailor.

“Our guests will not only get to see some iconic Outback locations, like the Flinders Ranges, Lake Eyre and Birdsville, but also enjoy access to places and people not available to ordinary travellers.”

The four-day tour costs A$7995 per person (twin share). The tariff includes accommodation, transfers, meals and refreshments, private guides and a R.M. Williams special package to the value of A$700. Departures are scheduled for June, July, August, September and October 2016.
