Held at the Four Points by Sheraton Sydney on Thursday 21 July and hosted by savvy travel reporter and television personality Catriona Rowntree, this year the TAA Awards of Excellence was more competitive than ever as they received the largest number of submissions in the history of the event.
General Manager, Peter Tudehope said, “I am very proud of the team who work tirelessly to ensure our guests have a seamless experience during their stay. They contribute to our wonderful all round five-star offering that I’m privileged to be a part of. My sincere congratulations go to all the staff, especially those recognised on the night who are extremely deserving of their awards.”
Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney was successful in the Outstanding Achievement in Training category and Housekeeper of the Year, Cecilia Gutierrez – runner-up.
Andrew Hecker and Annika Spaans, the Hotel’s Human Resource team, have worked tirelessly over the last twelve months to deliver7921.5 hours of training to the staff and organized 279 staff members to attend 95 external training sessions. This commitment to training has seen the hotel turnover reduce by 12% in 2015/16. The training provided has been instrumental in motivating the whole team through the hotel’s $13.5M re-design, which was completed this month.
Cecilia’s deserved recognition as runner-up for Housekeeper of the Year is testament to her impressive 15-year commitment to the hotel. She joined in 2002 and everyday brings a positive mind and ‘can-do’ attitude to work and is driven by outstanding customer service.
Also recognised last night was critically-acclaimed Bentley Restaurant and Bar. The two-hatted restaurant which found its contemporary new home in the historic façade of the hotel in 2013, was awarded Metropolitan Restaurant of the Year (joint award with Momofuku Seiobo, The STAR).
