Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Wins Responsible Business Hotel of the Year by Carlson Rezidor Group and Silver Certification by Earth Check
In February 2016, Radisson Blu Resort Fiji was presented with the Responsible Business Hotel of the Year Award at the Carlson Rezidor Asia Pacific Business Conference 2016 Awards night. This event is an annual occasion paying tribute to the top-performing hotel teams and individuals from across the region. With over 200 delegates attending the event, it was on this night that Radisson Blu Resort Fiji was recognised for showing attributes of a business that cares for the local Fijian community as well as the environment for the second time in three years.
Radisson Blu Resort Fiji is passionate about reducing their impact on the environment, aiming to minimise emissions and utilize the natural Fijian environment where possible. One of its biggest environmental achievement was the installation in early 2015 of the South Pacific largest hotel roofmounted solar power system. This achievement was funded by Sunergise System and installed by Clay Energy which are both local suppliers. The system provides up to 20% of the resort’s energy required on a daily basis. The Resort worked collectively with EarthCheck, the world’s leading scientific benchmarking, certification and advisory group for tourism to gather exact figures on the effectiveness of using solar energy, showing that the Resort was able to save over 10,600 trees since adding the solar panels.
The Resort also successfully achieved the Silver EarthCheck Certification in early 2016, which places them as a leader in the unique worldwide group of sustainable tourism operators, certified to the EarthCheck Company Silver Standard. The Resort continues to work towards new projects that will help reduce their Carbon footprint and deliver a better future for our precious environment.
Radisson Blu Resort Fiji takes pride in being actively involved in the Fijian community, connecting with 28 schools through the ‘Adopt a School’ program. Radisson Blu’s responsible business initiatives to date have included the distribution of over 350 computers, 18 new library set ups, fully funding the building of an Early Learning Centre, donations of kitchen equipment for vocational training, donations of tertiary text books and 17 brand new sewing machines to various schools within the Western division of Fiji.
The ‘Adopt a School’ program is committed to helping with hospitality training in the local community and conducts regular training sessions to assist in the development of future tourism leaders. Team members of Radisson Blu Resort Fiji show students the basic foundation skills in areas like Barista coffee making. The resort recently donated dough mixers to the Ratu Navula school to help improve the skills of much needed pastry chefs. Radisson Blu Resort Fiji is looking forward to expanding their support of schools and the environment in 2016.
