Since it opened its doors in 1887, Raffles Hotel Singapore has been the epitome of romance in the Far East – a seductive blend of luxury, history and colonial memories. During the golden age of travel that propelled Raffles Singapore to its legendary status, postcards were the social media of choice.

As part of Raffles Singapore’s 130th anniversary celebrations, the hotel will continue its century-old tradition of being part of the lives of our guests and the community, with a special project titled “Raffles Inspires – A Secret Postcard Sale” to celebrate the romance of writing postcards from 3 to 11 June 2017.

This project will showcase a series of postcards designed by distinguished guests of Raffles Singapore whose identities will be kept a secret until the postcard sale that will take place from 3rd to 11th June 2017 at Raffles Hotel Arcade in a pop-up shop, designed by Singapore’s creative curator, Daniel Boey.

The identities of the designers will be unveiled progressively throughout the 10-day sale. A limited print run of 130 pieces will be commissioned for each postcard design, which will be sold at S$10 each. All proceeds will be donated to Autism Association (Singapore), a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with autism and helping them to lead meaningful and quality lives in society.

Simon Hirst, General Manager, Raffles Hotel Singapore, said, “130 years is an incredible milestone for Raffles Singapore. Now that the restoration programme has begun, we wish to capture our guests’ special memories of the hotel through postcards – a fitting visual medium that will depict what Raffles Singapore means to our esteemed guests and the local community.”

“Autism Association (Singapore) is happy to be the beneficiary of Raffles Hotel Singapore’s efforts and commitment in building better inclusive communities for individuals with autism. The funds raised will make it possible for us to continue serving some of the clients and their families in need at the Eden Centre for Adults (Hougang and Clementi). The project will also go a long way in raising the awareness for autism and the need for increased support – especially in the area of services for adults,” said Paula Teo, Senior Manager, Programmes and Services of Autism Association (Singapore).

In addition to charity, “Raffles Inspires – A Secret Postcard Sale” also aims to inspire the future generation of Singapore. Students at the School of Design and Media of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central will be part of a postcard design competition, where the winning postcard design will be produced as part of a charity sale. The winners of the design competition will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony on 12th May 2017 at ITE College Central.
