egtmedia59Due to the outbreak of religious strife and events in Thandwe/Rakhain State in Myanmar on September 29, the Myanmar Chefs Association (MCA) decided that the planned Rakhain Traditional Culinary Challenge on October 11-13, 2013 at Ngapali Beach will not be held, but postponed to any other dates in 2014.
As security cannot be granted under the present situation, Myanmar Chefs Association (MCA) has urgently canceled the whole event. Also the certificateRembrandt - www.rembrandtbkk handover ceremony for the Rakhain Hotel Training School & Courses 2013 will not be held as planned. All students, who took part at the Hospitality Training of Myanmar Chefs Association from June 2013 can contact the Myanmar Chefs Association by phone for information on their certificates. The certificates will then just simply handed out when picked up at the MCA Office in Ngapali, Thandwe.

There was a night curfew in Thandwe imposed, as some 7 houses were destroyed in Thandwe by fire or looting. Riots are in the making and we have to wait how things develop.

So far, the touristic Ngapali beach area is not effected by the riots at all. The Government put the whole town of Thandwe under “day time & night time“ curfew, so that nobody even at day time is allowed to leave the house or be on the street. Roads are blocked at all intersections to prevent more people coming to town.

On Tuesday the riots spread to other villages and it was reported that 70 houses were burnt and a Muslim woman died.
