download (5)RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif.       Located in San Diego’s exclusive community of Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa, Southern California’s only Relais & Chateaux property, will host an exclusive four-day, four-night Andy Potts Performance Triathlon Camp by Breakaway Training, February 27-March 3, 2014.  Participants will have the opportunity to advance their training skills alongside former Olympian, multiple Ironman and 70.3 World Champion, Andy Potts,  and some of the best known trainers and coaches.

“We hand-select the best in the business in order to offer the most impactful triathlete training experience, so naturally Andy Potts was the ideal candidate,” says Jeff Jacobs, owner of Rancho Valencia, an accomplished tri-athlete and four time Ironman veteran.  “We are dedicated to not only delivering an extensive array of fitness offerings to guests, but an exceptional experience with the rare opportunity to gain access to some of the world’s top experts.”

The training schedule* includes a La Jolla Cove Open Water swim;  long scenic coastal run from La Jolla to Del Mar;  long mountain and desert ride through Ramona and Palomar;  short mountain brick run at Palomar Summit;  a coached pool swim session;  20k time trial at Fiesta Island;  speed work on the Track (4 miles);  a long ride from Rancho Santa Fe through the Elfin Forest and along the coast; and a short beach brick run.

COVE SWIM/LONG RUN – A beautiful open water swim at the famous La Jolla Cove. Participants will work on sighting, stroke, and other open water swim techniques. After the swim, camp participants will slip out of their wet suits and change into their running gear for a long, scenic run from La Jolla to Del Mar. Runners will pass the La Jolla Shores, the Scripps Oceanography Institute, and the beautiful Torrey Pines Golf Course & State Park finishing in Del Mar.

LONG RIDE/BRICK RUN – Traveling along many of the same roads as Stage 1 of the 2013 Tour of California, participants will take part in a challenging but rewarding ride through Escondido, Ramona, Julian, and Valley Center finishing atop Mt. Palomar; a 4,000+ ft, 10 mile climb with spectacular views all the way to the top. The ride is fully supported with a follow car stocked with nutrition, spare tubes, tires and a mechanic to cover technical difficulties. After summiting, riders will swap their bike for their run shoes for a short, scenic transition run to the Mt. Palomar Observatory with breathtaking views. Lunch will be served at the observatory before driving back to Rancho Valencia.
POOL SWIM – An evening pool swim workout focusing on speed and technique.

TIME TRIAL – Riders will race against the clock in a 20k time trial at Fiesta Island in Mission (6)
TRACK RUN – A track workout designed to help participants focus on running form and speed.

LONG RIDE – A beautiful and moderately challenging ride through Rancho Santa Fe, around Lake Hodges, through Elfin Forest and back to Rancho Valencia along the California coast.

Incorporating custom training created by Breakaway Training’s team of professionals, the schedule will feature rewarding and challenging swim, bike and run sessions along some of Southern California’s most scenic coastal locations and through terrain featured in the Tour of California. The camp will also include daily breakfast and lunch, a welcome reception and farewell dinner with guest speakers and pros, daily recovery massages at the resort’s award winning spa and luxury accommodations in Rancho Valencia’s newly renovated, expansive casitas.
