One of Australia’s most awarded television journalists and most well-known entertainment personalities, Ray Martin will co-host a special, exclusive tour with acclaimed historian Mat McLachlan to the Western Front in June 2020.
Having travelled with Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours to the Gallipoli Peninsula for the centenary commemorations in 2015, Ray Martin is looking forward to returning to the battlefields with Mat McLachlan for this special 10-day tour which will include visits to the key Australian battlefields of the Ypres Salient, Flanders and the Somme – uncovering stories of the spirit of mateship and sacrifice along the way.
Ray Martin said: “Throughout my career I have covered some of the most momentous events in modern history, I have travelled across the world reporting breaking news and have interviewed some incredible people, from Prince Charles to the rock-band Kiss. I have a strong interest in the events that shaped our world – and the Great War is perhaps one of the most significant nation-shaping events. I am looking forward to joining Mat McLachlan for this special tour to the Western Front, and to sharing some of my experiences throughout my career with those who join us.”

The itinerary has been hand-picked by Ray and Mat and includes incredibly unique experiences: a photographic workshop with Ray Martin; a live interview by Ray Martin, uncovering Mat McLachlan’s life story; extensive touring of the Western Front including off-the-beaten path sites and experiences, a tour of the Sint Bernardus Brewery in Watou and tasting of the famous ‘Trappist’ beer brewed by local monks, and more.
