It has been 20 magical years since Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published…For all the Potterheads out there looking to re-live the time they fell in love with The Boy Who Lived, HomeAway®, the world leader in vacation rentals, recommends the following properties that are a quidditch-toss away from the original filming locations in the movie adaption of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Diagon Alley – Leadenhall Market

Recommended listing:
This self-contained Victorian Apartment on HomeAway is a mere 5-minute walk from Leadenhall Market, which happens to be the original filming location of Diagon Alley! This was where Harry Potter had his first taste of the wizarding world, with magical shops selling anything from flying broomsticks and cauldrons, to magic wands and books. Visit the many pubs and bars located in this market with your friends as this apartment is perfect for up to 6 guests. Anyone up for a Butterbeer?

Platform 9¾ – King’s Cross Station

Recommended Listing:
As any fan of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling series knows, Platform 9¾ is where students board the magical Hogwarts Express to head to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This luxurious HomeAway is a 9-minute walk from King’s Cross Station, the platform’s original filming location. Look out for a luggage trolley embedded in the wall, but don’t let the muggles see you disappear! When you and your friends are not running into walls, indulge in the apartment’s luxurious décor or utilise the kitchen and the appliances provided to cook up your very own Great Feast.

Hogwarts Castle – Alnwick Castle

Recommended listing:
Alnwick Castle, where many key scenes of the Hogwarts Castle in the first two movies were filmed, is 10 minutes away from this cozy HomeAway property. Practice your spell-casting techniques (remember, it’s Wing-gar-dium Levi-o-sa) in this beautiful cottage which boasts two pretty bedrooms and two stylish bathrooms, a private patio and a gorgeous kitchen. When you are done practising your spells, the many shops and cafés at Alnwick Castle will provide a cozy respite.

Gringotts Bank – Somerset House

Recommended listing:
Gringotts Wizarding Bank, filmed in the Somerset House in London, is the only bank of the wizarding world, and is owned and operated by goblins. This beautiful HomeAway is just 5 minutes away from the Somerset House, and is also within walking distance to other tourist attractions such as Big Ben and Piccadilly Circus. Just make sure that you use pound sterling instead of Golden Galleons, or the goblins might come get you!

Forbidden Forest – Black Park Country Park

Recommended listing:

Sometimes also known as the Dark Forest, the Forbidden Forest borders the edges of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry grounds. Although not really inhabited by centaurs and Acromantula, the Black Park Country Park is a popular location for walks due to its wide-open spaces and well-maintained routes. This 4-bedroom HomeAway property located near the country park is perfect for a getaway. If you are feeling adventurous, you can even grab your buddies and re-enact all the times where Harry, Ron and Hermione had to take a trip into the Forbidden Forest!

Hogwarts Express

Recommended listing:
When wizards and witches are not flying around on their magical broomsticks, there’s a good chance that you can find them on board the Hogwarts Express. In fact, it was on the Hogwarts Express that Harry Potter first made the acquaintance of Ronald Weasley, with their first interaction happening during the train ride filmed on the Glenfinnan Viaduct. A short walk to the Glenfinnan monument, this terraced holiday cottage on HomeAway is ideal for families (pets are welcome too!) wanting to explore the area.

Hogwarts Library – Duke Humfrey’s Bodleian Library

Recommended listing:

This wonderful yellow brick 4-bedroom HomeAway town house is located near the famous Bodleian Library belonging to Duke Humfrey, the filming location for the great Hogwarts Library. Remember when Harry snuck into the restricted section using his Invisibility Cloak? Or when Hagrid went to look for care instructions for his dragon egg?

Perfect for a group of up to 9 people, the central location of this HomeAway also puts you right in the heart of Oxford, but with enough privacy and space that you will feel like you are in a world of your own.

The Zoo – London Zoo

Recommended listing:

The London Zoo was where Harry first learnt of his Parseltongue ability. It also set the stage for Harry’s first use of magic, when he made the glass enclosure disappear. Besides a fun day out at the London Zoo, this newly-renovated HomeAway period flat is also a stone’s throw away from London’s bustling nightlife, theatre and restaurants, and attractions. Ideal for a family or a group of up to 5 friends, this is a great base for travelers to explore London.

Hogsmeade Station – Goathland Staion

Recommended listing:
Have you waited year after year for your letter from Hogwarts to no avail? End your wait by booking this beautiful HomeAway cottage in the tiny hamlet of Littlebeck which is less than 15 minutes’ drive from Goathland Station, the filming location for Hogsmeade Station. With its many walkways and cycle tracks for adventurous individuals to explore and traditional Yorkshire cuisine to be sampled around the area, you will definitely get to feel like you are in a scene right out of Harry Potter!
