A record will be set for the most events ever staged at the Brisbane Showgrounds for the month of May, when more than 75,000 people make their way to Queensland’s largest events site next month for 46 events.

The first day of May will bring the biggest event – Labour Day Festival – with around 25,000 people to march from Spring Hill to the Showgrounds, where they’ll celebrate workers’ rights with a day-long free festival featuring rides, music and food.

Other events in May include ROC (Ridiculous Obstacle Course) Race on May 13 which will see around 12,000 people don crazy costumes as they tackle a 5km obstacle course and more than 6,000 people will plan their perfect outdoor oasis at the Pool, Spa and Outdoor Living Expo from May 27.

The month will also include several banquets and cocktail receptions, with the Royal International Convention Centre (Royal ICC) chefs to serve up a total of 12,000 dishes.

Brisbane Showgrounds General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said he’s thrilled about the record May.

“This is the first May where we’ve seen the total number of events hit the 40s, as we’ve seen high 30s the past two years. We’re also on track for a record year,” he said.

“It’s a credit to our professional and dedicated staff that we have so many events booked next month and with 46 events in 31 days they’ll certainly be busy.”

The 22 hectare Brisbane Showgrounds precinct is located just 1.5km from Brisbane’s CBD.
