Fiji Airways will today announce its financial results for the period ending December 31 2018, crossing the F$1Billion Revenue mark for the first time in the airlines history. The airline has seen a significant profit increase despite challenges in the industry.

As the main carrier for Austraians to Fiji, the airline is set to keep soaring to new heights. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, 340,000 Australians travel to Fiji every year.

Key highlights of the financial results include:

  • Group revenue increased 10% to F$1.02 billion compared to F$929 million for the previous Financial Year. This is the first time that the airline has crossed the F$1 billion mark for revenue in its 67-year history.

  • Group profit before tax was F$55.3 million compared to F$95.8 million for the previous Financial Year. Fuel price impacted profits by F$31.5 million and foreign exchange valuations impacted profits by a further F$8.2 million.

  • The Group carried more than 1.7 million passengers compared to 1.6 million passengers during the previous Financial Year.

  • Based on the results, The Group has announced all eligible non-management staff of Fiji Airways and Fiji Link will each receive a profit-share payout of F$2,350.

In addition to the financial results, the airline has also announced it is adding two new Airbus A350 XWB to its fleet, to better service the AU and USA markets. Fiji Airways US flight routes are a popular choice with Australian travellers heading to and from the US. The popularity of which is reflected in the airline’s choice to make the San Francisco service year round.
