Oman is playing host to a unique bike tour that will see a pair of world champion bikers showing off their spellbinding biking skills against the backdrop of the Sultanate’s equally breathtaking landscapes.
The Red Bull Bike Tour 2014 began yesterday with champion riders Kenny Belaey and Viki Gomez kicking off a week long programme of 24 shows to be held in four cities including Muscat, Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah.

The nine-time world champion trial biker, Kenny Belaey said: “I am extremely excited to visit Oman for the Red Bull Bike Tour this year. It’s an extremely beautiful country with a great landscape.”Belaey, who previously visited Oman in 2010 to perform at the Tour of Oman, added: “In the past I have enjoyed Oman but I am looking forward to explore the rest of the country including Salalah.”

Since his first junior outing in 1992, at the age of nine, Belaey has produced an awesome list of achievements including two Cadet World Championships, two Junior World Championships, a Junior European Championship, four Elite World Championships, an incredible six Elite World Cups, and three Elite European Championship titles. After seeing the tricks audiences are left wondering how he manages to move on a bicycle in the way that he does. From road to the street to walls, buildings and rails the city holds no limits for a trial rider.

Also touring the Sultanate this week, Viki Gomez is by far the best flatlander in Spain and he is the current number one flatland rider in the world. He has won the European X Games Championship twice, the Asia Championship twice in Japan, the Red Bull Circle of Balance a couple of times and he has been collecting titles since he started competing in this sport at 19 years old. Viki’s method of facing flatland is almost philosophical. For him it is not just aerobatics on a bicycle. Viki defines his sport as “a fight between mind, gravity and physics combined with movement inertia. A way of surpassing the limits of your imagination”. Viki´s inspiration and motivation comes from all the world-wide experiences he has been offered in the past decade. He has been invited to travel to more than 45 countries, to perform in many exotic places in the world, from Asia to America and the beautiful Middle-East.

Returning to Oman for the third time, Gomez said: “I am pretty excited to come back to Oman. I’ve always had a lot of fun here and enjoy the culture. It is a beautiful country and the people are very friendly. I’m looking forward to having a good time in Oman again.”

With palm and date trees lining the narrow, winding and old rocky paths, the scenic cities in Oman will provide a spectacular backdrop for the tour. Follow Red Bull Oman on Twitter for all the latest updates.
