From this generation’s most decorated serving soldier in the Commonwealth, to a renowned entrepreneur well-known to viewers of the hugely popular Shark Tank reality competition TV series – TravelManagers is recruiting some major talent for its 2017 national conference in Darwin this year.

TravelManagers executive general manager, Michael Gazal, confirmed yesterday that  Red Shark Naomi Simson would be a keynote speaker, as would Benjamin (Ben) Roberts-Smith, an Australian businessman, former Australian Army soldier, and recipient of the Victoria Cross for Australia; the highest award in the Australian military honours system.

“Together they will inspire and provide personal travel managers (PTMs) insights into leadership and success focusing on the conference theme of ONE,” Gazal said.

Naomi Simson

Gazal said he was “hugely excited” about the impressive calibre of keynote speakers confirmed for the national conference, the company’s 10th, scheduled for 7-9 September in Darwin.

“TravelManagers prides itself on previously having innovative and motivational speakers at our national conferences, who inspire our PTMs, providing relevant content and thought provoking open forum discussions.

“This year we really have lifted the bar ever further. Naomi and Ben’s incredible stories of success and tenacity to succeed are nothing short of awe-inspiring and our PTM’s are simply buzzing with excitement about this year’s conference. We are confident this will be the best TravelManagers conference to date.”

Simson, a noted entrepreneur, author, blogger and innovator, founded the brand success story RedBalloon, an online experience gift retailer. She’s well known to Australians as one of five Sharks on Network Ten’s Shark Tank.

Gazal said Simson would draw parallels between the ambition of PTMs to achieve their own business success and her experiences, focusing on “the passion, determination and attention to detail that are critical to succeed”.

Ben Roberts-Smith

Roberts-Smith was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions during a helicopter assault into Tizak on 11 June 2010 as part of an offensive in the Shah Wali Kot region, while serving with the Special Air Service Regiment in Afghanistan. The medal, together with his Medal for Gallantry awarded during a tour of Afghanistan in 2006, makes him the most highly decorated member of the Australian Defence Force.

“Ben will engage with our PTMs about self-belief and the success we can achieve together as a company with our common goal of ‘one’,” Gazal said yesterday.

“He will provide motivation through his own awe-inspiring journey of courage, self-belief and his ability to engage and form strong alliances which is critical for success.”
