Regional Express confirmed to operate Perth – Carnarvon / Monkey Mia route

The Western Australian (WA) Government has announced Regional Express (Rex) as the successful tenderer to operate the Regular Public Transport (RPT) air services on the Perth – Carnarvon / Monkey Mia route, commencing 2 July 2018.

This announcement will serve as a much-needed tourism boost to the Coral Coast region, for passengers and residents of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area and Carnarvon. These areas are best known for the Monkey Mia dolphins and Carnarvon’s seafood, fruit and vegetable industry.

Chairman of Australia’s Coral Coast, Manny Papadoulis supports Rex’s appointment,

“Having a seasoned aviation operator like Rex take on this route will see an immediate improvement in leisure numbers visiting the Coral Coast region”.

Flights will be on sale from 1 March 2018. The flight schedule (appendix), starting July, is attached with Community Fares from AUD $157. There will be 25 percent of inventory made available at $157, if booked 60+ days in advance, with all remaining unsold seats being made available within 1 day prior to departure.

With the route takeover by Rex, bookings can now be made via travel agents. Additionally Rex holds a baggage agreement with Virgin Airlines (and will operate out of Perth Airport’s T2 terminal), ensuring luggage can be checked all the way through to Monkey Mia / Carnarvon from east coast/domestic flights.

Rex’s General Manager Network Strategy & Sales Mr Warrick Lodge said,

“Rex intends to replicate this same successful scheme to Monkey Mia and Carnarvon. Rex and RAC (Monkey Mia / Shark Bay airport) have agreed to enter into a five-year agreement which will result in the Community Fare Scheme being made available between Perth and Monkey Mia.”

Rex will operate 12 weekly return services between Perth and Carnarvon and 6 weekly return services between Perth and Monkey Mia (appendix). This is a 20% increase in flight frequency for Carnarvon and a 50% increase in flight frequency for Monkey Mia in comparison to the current flight frequency offered by the incumbent.

Sale starts 1 March 2018 via www.rex.com.au, on 13 17 13 or your local travel agent.
