One of the oldest international film festivals, hosted by the Federation Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA) – The 56th Asia-Pacific Film Festival (The 56 APFF) this year will continue to be hosted in Macao.

D89123B4B7BBD11BE307F8CF63E4FE5DMr. Eric Tsang, Chairman of The 56th APFF Organizing Committee, announced the good news at a kick off ceremony and press briefing at The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel in Macao Thursday. This year’s festival is themed “Movie Chutzpah!” and will be held from 13th to 15 December 2013 at The Venetian Macao, grand sponsor of this year’s event.

In 2012, the 55 Asia-Pacific Film Festival held in Macao achieved huge success; this year, the renowned film event, once again, chose Macao as the hosting city. With the full support of the Macao SAR Government, and riding on last year’s successful experience, it is expected the 56 APFF will further promote the entertainment industry and unleash the enormous potential of the film industry in Macao, as well as enhancing sharing amongst industry practitioners in the region, and opening a new page for film industry development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Chan Chak Mo, Convenor of The 56 APFF Organizing Committee, expressed his great appreciation to the Macao SAR Government for its continuous support of the development of the Macao film industry. He also praised the Macao Foundation, Sands China Ltd., Macao and Hong Kong’s film practitioners, as well as all participating films for their collaboration and support of The 56th APFF, to further promote the Macao and Asia-Pacific film industries.

Also at the opening, Ms. Michelle Ip, Acting Head of the Tourism Product and Events Department of the Macau Government Tourist Office said “Macao has multicultural development the distinctive mixed Chinese and Portuguese buildings are unique scenes in Asia-Pacific, which has successfully DD7D7FF0D9C74F96504D5E699004C90Dattracted different production crews to shoot their films in Macao. This year, to celebrate the return of The APFF to Macao, we specially made a film call “Oh, My Love” to further promote the distinguishing features of Macao abroad; various practitioners and artists from Macao are invited to participate to produce this meaningful film.”

As the grand sponsor of The APFF for the second consecutive year, speaking on behalf of Cotai Strip Resorts Macao and The Venetian Macao, Mr. Edward Tracy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sands China Ltd. said “Cotai Strip Resorts Macao and The Venetian Macao are pleased to host this prestigious film industry event, which is very much in line with our company’s vision of establishing Macao as one of the top entertainment hubs in Asia. Sands China is honoured to be part of this vehicle for promoting cultural exchange in the region.”

Mr. Eric Tsang, Chairman of The 56 APFF Organizing Committee, said, “I’m glad to once again participate in this grand Asia-Pacific film event.

Macao hosting this year’s APFF after last year’s success is the best evidence proving Macao’s dedicated efforts in promoting the film industry. I hope Macao’s performing arts industry will further move toward the international arena. Under the theme of ‘Movie Chutzpah!’ the 56 year of APFF aims to inspire people to unleash their imaginations and break out of the normal routine of perceiving movies: a movie can be found in our reality, while the reality can give birth to a movie. ‘Movies Exist everywhere!’”

During the kick off ceremony, The 56 APFF countdown timer was switched on by VIP guests, representing the official start-up of this year’s festival. To facilitate a smooth preparation of the Festival, the organizer is inviting college students in Macao and Hong Kong to join as volunteers of The 56 APFF. Meanwhile, the organizer also announced that, supported by the Macao SAR Government, the Macao themed film – “Oh, My Love” would be this year’s APFF highlighted movie. Artists of the film, including Cecilia Yip, Maria Cordero, Peipei Cheng, Germano Guilherme, Charmaine Fong, Vernie Yeung, as well as directors Kio Chong and Henrri Wong, shared their experiences from the shooting of the film at Thursday’s ceremony.
